Update 17-jun-2011 : Android 2.3.3 for Galaxy Ace is officially available via kies
Today we will see how to update the Samsung Ace Galaxy. Here is how to upgrade the Samsung Ace Galaxy S5830 through firmware you can find on samfirmware.com (registration required):
- Download needed drivers for your pc from here and install them
- Download Odin Multi Downloader v4.38 from here
- Now choose the firmware from here , the latest S5830XXKPE (Gingerbread 2.3, video recording at 640 × 480 at 30fps)
- Make sure you have the phone’s battery charge at least 80%
Now that you have everything now you need to go and set Odin.
- Unzip the firmware . Zip file in a folder
- Open Odin Multi Downloader , be sure to tick the boxes and Protect OPS Auto Reboot
- Click on OPS and select the .Ops file (Cooper.ops OR Cooper_v1.0.ops file )
- Click on BOOT and select the file called APBOOT
- Click on PHONE and select the file called MODEM
- Click on PDA and select the file called CODE
- Click on CSC and select a file called CSC
WARNING: Do not select anything in EFS
Now we can proceed with the upgrade.
- Before connecting to the pc put your phone in the download mode which can be done by pressing Middle Key(OK Key) + Power key and Volume Down Key
Note : Don’t proceed to next steps if you are unable to connect your phone in download mode to pc
- Once the message appeared connected to the PC
- If your phone is properly connected Odin Multi Downloader signal the COM port in Port Mapping, we can then click on START
The operation will take us a few minutes, let the phone reboots itself after that disconnect.

Erm Where to get the Theme for it? The Gingerbread theme for the Phone. Cuz I just upgraded it to Gingerbread it work Flawlessly, it boot up faster plug the phone to PC without USB problem. play games faster. But Can I know where to get the theme =P

hi this is sreenivas, i have updated with Gingerbird 2.3.4, some ways i want to move back to my original firm ware, and i found that firm ware from samfirmware.com [Asia Samsung S5830 Firmwares.].my problem is that files are totally different from 2.3.4 firmware.I’m not able to update my phone using ‘S5570_Odin_Multi_Downloader_v4.38′ bcoz the files are different …….would you plz tell me how to restore my phone to Froyo 2.2.1 in detail……

Maybe you download this one, S5830XXKPE (for gingerbread 2.3.3), not S5830XXKPH (for gingerbread 2.3.4). I f you want 2.3.4, just download S5830XXKPH

Hey, it happened the same to me. Try reinstalling the USB drivers. In my case, I had Kies installed, and when I tried to install the USB drivers, windows told me that they already existed, so I did not install them. Now, I installed them and I could upgrade to 2.3.4.

sorry, I installed 2.3.3, with 2.3.4 it did not work. There must be something wrong with the files, because when upgrading to 2.3.3 in Odin’s top appears (GT-S5830) but for 2.3.4 it just says Android. It seems to me that Odin does not recognize the phone model or something like that.
I am surprised why it is not working , thousands of my friends said working perfectly

Yes you need , this step is necessary to flash firmware on phone. if you have kies installed than uninstall kies and then install these drivers

I am very much impresed reading yr posts. I hv purchased the Ace just 7 days ago with the 2.2 OS+Bsnl. and installed 10 apps. I hv set the brightness to min level and put bg data off + 3g on, but still the battery drains within 8 hrs. And if i did net th opera mini or map+latitude then it lasts for 3 to 4 hrs. The bat uses displaying “cell standby =55%”upon no use. Can u pls put some light on it. Can 2.3.4 resolve the bat draining issue? Waiting for your valued reply.

Tushar I am also so sad about android phone’s low battery backup. almost all phone have same issue. android phones have powerful processor and RAM so they eats more energy.
Android 2.3.4 update fixes it a little bit , you can also try juice-defender app it will help you to save energy

Maybe you download this one, S5830XXKPE (for gingerbread 2.3.3), not S5830XXKPH (for gingerbread 2.3.4). I f you want 2.3.4, just download S5830XXKPH.

I am confused about when to connect my phone to the PC.
When setting up Odin (Unzip etc.) should your phone be connected to the PC or do you connect your phone after you have set up Odin?
Do you switch your phone off and then press “Middle Key(OK Key) + Power key and Volume Down Key” or do it when your phone is switched on?
Should you remove the SD card and SIM when putting your phone into download mode?
Do you put your phone in download mode, then connect it to your PC?
When connecting your phone to the PC, should it be in debugging mode?
switch your phone off and in switch off mode press volume down+middle key , and while holding both press power key.
after you entered in download mode connect phone to pc
remove the SD card and SIM , no need to set debugging mode
You need to hold all 3 keys(Power,Volume and Middle button) for about 30seconds till you see “Downloading” on your screen. It works. I have upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 in 5minutes.
If lots of users are complaining its because they are ignoring some steps.

No it will not mess up with your phone and you will get good performance than before. think like this “androids are like pc just install any firmware and enjoy (except some) ”
I will just wait, because I recently read in a blog that if I update it, I’ll lose my 3G capability, since the Europeans use two different data bands compared to ours. Also, Samsung has begun to roll out the official 2.3.3 update through Kies to Russia and Poland, so it should be coming to LatAm in about September, October at most.
oh…. i really dont know about your region’s 3g bandwidth . by the way you will be able to enjoy official 2.3.3 very soon

download froyo firmware of your country and flash it (flashing method is same as upgrading method)

When you have upgraded , APN settings and MMS settings are restored . So reconfigure them

after looking for several ROM with different code, i finally understand that different code is for different region….
now i use S5830DXKPB for my region…
and all is fine now…

Sometimes update only releases for Europe and if i try to post region code then some country can not go this update , , that’s why i only published one firmware that is valid for all regions

Remove kies and any other phone related software. disable windows firewall and antivirus.
Now install the drivers provided in above tutorial. make sure while you run ODIN , run it as administrator (Window 7 users right click on it and select “Run as administrator”)
. if not works then only solution is Use another PC

I could change the language to English but there is one application which still has Russian title and I am unable to change or delete it.
Also, you said that it works fine, but in my case I have trouble with WiFi. It is not allowing me to connect to internet. Though it says WiFi is connected.
To delete it
Root your phone, than install Titanium Backup from market. Run Titanium, press menu key in Titanium, run Batch, scroll down and find Uninstall all apps (written RUN in yellow), deselect all, find Bewark, mark/select, press run batch operation. Done
