Most pleasing news for all Android owners, Navfree the most popular satellite navigation applications on the iPhone, is now available for Android from Android Market directly and it is totally free :)

Google Maps is a decent navigation app for Android platform but it need some improvements to replace a car navigation system, unlike many other satellite navigation systems Navfree is using OpenStreetMap data that are collected by millions of people around the world.

This means that it is continually updated and currently gets an average of about 20,000 corrections each month . Another point in favor of Navfree is that its maps are stored on the phone and there is no need internet or WiFi to get directions.

    Very timely, I’m just investigating the topic. I had bought the phone after a short search when I found that there are such tools. But I have not found a usable yet.
    Best so far is AndNav2 , have you tried that.

    NAVFree just downloaded and installed form market (12-12-2011).
    NAVFree needs data connection to search an address, so its not possible to use without data connection.

    Has never found any address I have entered into the nav. Actual addresses not fake. Even my own home is not found by this app.
